I Love Helping Others Decorate Their Homes on a Budget

Don’t get me wrong, I love spending my money at Target as much as the next home-design-obsessed lady but sometimes there just isn’t room in the budget. Here’s how I shop frugally to achieve the look I want.

Dining Room

1. Get the big stuff from Facebook Marketplace.

If you can’t repaint or refinish a piece of furniture that you already have, look on Facebook Marketplace. It helps if you aren’t in a rush because even if you can’t find exactly what you are looking for, you can use the save feature to be shown similar items when they pop up, increasing your chances of seeing them on your Marketplace feed.

2. Wait for sales.

I know it seems like you need that rug in your life right now, but chances are it will eventually go on sale. I’ve been thinking about this Chris Love Julia x Loloi Rugs patterned rug for months now, so when it went on sale for $100 off, I was certain about my purchase and felt good because I got such a great deal. Shop this rug.

3. Thrift stores are your new BFF.

Now, this one may depend on your own personal style. In my case, I’m in luck because “My Grandma had one just like that!” is my style. Something that can be helpful is knowing what colors and textures match your overall home style and looking for those. As an example, when I enter a thrift or antique shop, I start by searching for brass and wood objects. Frames, mirrors, vases, etc… Chances are if they are brass or wood, they would complement the rest of my home decor.

4. Patience is key.

If your goal is to save money, be prepared to wait. Yes, you could get it in 2 days if you just order it now from Amazon, but you won’t get that sweet, sweet feeling of scoring an amazing vintage piece from FB Marketplace for 1/3 of the price of a new one. Once you feel it, you’ll know what I mean! There you have it! This is basically the formula I follow to decorate my home on a super tight budget. I hope these tips help you save some serious dough!
